Zalgiris takes commanding win in KMT opener 4
Zalgiris Kaunas has confidently started the quarter-final series of the Citadele King Mindaugas Cup. Kazys Maksvytis’ team defeated Wolves Alytus 95-79 (26-21, 22-14, 28-25, 19-19) in the first leg of the best-of-two series. The return game will take place on 22nd of January in Zalgirio Arena.
The opening quarter did not project an easy battle for the green-and-whites, as the opposition stayed within a shout, five points behind.
Nevertheless, the green-and-whites managed to put things into order in the second period, running up by 13 before the break.
The margin did not shrink after the break, as Edgaras Ulanovas guided the team forwards to a comfortable finish.
Zalgiris was led by the team’s captain Edgaras Ulanovas, who put up 19 points. Arnas Butkevicius was once again doing it all, as he filled the statsheet with 17 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. Laurynas Birutis added 15 points, as Tomas Dimsa ended up with 14.
