Zalgiris wins King Mindaugas Cup 8
Zalgiris Kaunas won King Mindaugas Cup for the fourth year in a row by defeating CBet Jonava 81-77 in the final in Siauliai.
Edgaras Ulanovas scored 22 points for the winners, and was named MVP of the Final Four. Arnas Butkevicius added 17 points and Rolands Smits and Lukas Lekavicius contributed 10 apiece.
Edvinas Seskus led Jonava with 17 points and Glynn Watson scored 15.
Zalgiris started strong and led 26-17 after 10 minutes. Butkevicius and Ulanovas boosted Zalgiris with a pair of dunks in the second quarter, as Kaunas team led 40-33 at halftime.
Jonava turned the tables in the third quarter and entered the fourth up 56-55.
Butkevicius scored twice in a 10-0 Zalgiris run to open the fourth quarter. Goran Huskic helped Jonava rally to within 70-73 and Watson made it 74-76 in the penultimate minute. Free throws by Ulanovas and Smits helped Zalgiris seal the outcome.
