Zalgiris wins a roller-coaster game in Klaipeda 7
Zalgiris Kaunas returned to winning ways in the Lithuanian Championship, as they defeated Neptunas Klaipeda on the road to tab their 19th victory in the 23 games.
It was a roller-coaster game, as the green-and-whites took a 23-17 first quarter lead and extended it 34-24 in the second quarter. However, the hosts cut it to 36-35 just before the break.
Neptunas started the second half on a roll, and quickly built a double-digit lead (37-48). After allowing the opponents to score 33 points in the third quarter, Zalgiris trailed 58-68 with 10 minutes to go.
Things again changed at the start of the fourth period, when Zalgiris bombarded Klaipeda’s team with a barrage of three-points for a 18-2 run. The guests made 8 threes in the last quarter, and
Zalgiris was led by Rolands Smits, who had 19 points and 5 assists. Lukas Lekavicius chipped in with 18 points, as Tomas Dimsa and Laurynas Birutis had identical stats of 12 points and 6 rebounds.
