Regular season ends with a loss in Panevezys 22
Zalgiris Kaunas (28/5), who had already secured the first place in the Betsafe-LKL regular season, suffered a setback in Panevezys. Kazis Maksvytis’ team lost 85-87 to 7bet-Lietkabelis (23/10).
Isaiah Taylor and Rolands Smits received some rest and did not make the trip to Panevezys.
Tyler Cavanaugh, who returned to the line-up, scored the first points of the game, Kevarrius Hayes scored seven points, Kevarrius Hayes hit a three-pointer, Edgaras Ulanovas made a free throw and Dovydas Giedraitis hit a long-range jumper to make the score 13-6. Achille Polonara made two free throws and a three-pointer, and Ignas Brazdeikis made a long-range jumper at the end of the period, 21-12.
Arnas Butkevicius made a tough shot, Lukas Lekavicius flashed a 2+1, while Polonara and Motiejus Krivas made two free throws each, 30-16. Krivas scored a two-pointer with a foul, Cavanaugh made a mid-range jumper, Brazdeikis connected from downtown, and Ulanovas made five free throws for 45-33 halftime lead.
Tomas Dimsa scored eight points in six minutes after the break, but the opponents were closing in, 53-45. Brazdeikis and Polonara scored two points each, Laurynas Birutis scored four points, but Kaunas’ lead was still slightly reduced, 61-54.
Birutis added seven more points and Ulanovas scored five more, but at the end of the quarter the teams were only a point apart, 73-72. Giedraitis scored a 2+1, Karolis Lukosiunas and Dimsa each made a long-range shot, and the score was tied at 81-81 with one minute left. However, the hosts played better at the end of the game, Giedraitis tried to save the situation with a three-pointer, Dimsa made a free throw, but in the end Kaunas had to concede the superiority of their opponents with the score 85-87.
Dimsa was the best scorer with 12 points, Ulanovas and Birutis had 11 each, while Polonara added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
