LKL Finals series tied, as Zalgiris looses in Vilnius 74
The best-of-five Betsafe-LKL Finals series got tied 1-1 on Saturday. Zalgiris Kaunas lost 71-94 to Rytas Vilnius on the road.
The Kaunas team was down 0-9 at the start of the three-minute period, but then Tyler Cavanaugh and Edgaras Ulanovas scored inside, Tomas Dimsa sank free throws and Lukas Lekavicius hit a three-pointer, 9-14. Cavanaugh and Dimsa were accurate from long range, Lekavicius converted his free throws and Rolands Smits scored for 19-24 at the end of first quarter.
Isaiah Taylor scored twelve points in the first half of the second quarter, Ulanovas made a free throw and Laurynas Birutis dunked it home to tie it at 34-34. In the rest of the quarter, Taylor scored again, Lekavicius delivered four points and Cavanaugh added a point from the free-throw line, 41-48 at halftime.
After the break, Hayes scored six points and Taylor made four free throws, 51-55. Birutis, Lekavicius and Cavanaugh scored on free throws, but the opponents sped up and the teams got separated, 56-75.
Taylor continued his good individual performance with two points, but those were the only points for the Zalgiris at half-point of the fourth quarter, 58-85. Dimsa scored five points, Cavanaugh and Karolis Lukosiunas scored from long range, but the outcome of the game could not be changed, 71-94.
Taylor was the leading scorer with 20 points. Dimsa added 12 points, Cavanaugh scored 11 and Lekavicius finished the game with 10 points.
