Zalgiris Kaunas logo will be renewed in the new season 17
Zalgiris Kaunas is turning a new page in its history. The Lithuanian champions will welcome the new season with a renewed visual identity and logo, which will be unveiled in September.
Last season, Zalgiris boasted good results both on and off the pitch. Interest in Zalgiris games and attendance at Zalgirio Arena exceeded expectations, with 17 out of 18 EuroLeague home games selling out.
Zalgiris, supported by its fans, finished the EuroLeague regular season on a high note, earning the right to play in the playoffs and ending the season by reclaiming the Lithuanian championship.
The names of Lithuania, Kaunas and Zalgirio Arena were also flashed in the entire basketball world, when the EuroLeague Final Four was hosted in Kaunas in May.
After many events that have grown the organization and made history, Zalgiris is determined to go further and is preparing for renewal. The team plans to update the logo used since 2005. This was an improvement on the version created in 1998, with the Zalgiris logo on the shield. The shield motif will remain in the new Zalgiris logo.
The changes have been driven by benchmarking with the strongest sports organizations and analyzing the most interesting examples of recent years. Many NBA teams, the Formula One organization and Juventus Turin have refreshed their logos, while Juventus has overhauled its visual identity and applied the updated logo and style in a variety of areas.
“Most of the leading sports teams have renewed themselves over the last decade. To stay relevant in a changing world, we had also to take another step forward,” says Zalgiris Kaunas Director Paulius Jankunas. – The achievements of the last season oblige us not to stop. In addition to sporting victories and excellent attendance results, we want to strengthen the sales of merchandise, develop special product lines and look for new partnerships. Digital solutions and social networks are particularly important in today’s world, reaching a much wider and younger audience.”
The future of sports organizations depends on how they manage to attract more young people to sport. It is also important to keep up with the latest technology and to keep up with partners who are constantly moving forward.
“Over the past decade, Zalgiris Kaunas has transformed itself from a bankruptcy-ridden club to one of the top-ranked organizations in the EuroLeague, added a football team and expanded into other activities. The new look is designed to be more versatile and to help those activities develop successfully. Although the team and the organization are modern, the current logo has been largely unchanged for decades and poses challenges in terms of customization, from merchandise to digital channels. In both licensed products and partner integrations, we want our style and branding to help our partners show up in the most beautiful colors and the new logo will not limit the freedom of integrations. We want to be seen as a club that is supported by the whole country and has fans all over the world, and we want to be closer to them all. This is just the first step of the digital transformation. At the beginning of the season, we will also launch the new Zalgiris app, the renewed Zalgiris.lt, the merchandise store and more,” says Ignas Vysniauskas, Marketing Dirrector of Zalgiris.
Fans who follow the team on social media will soon see details of the new look revealed, and the new Zalgiris logo will be unveiled at a special event on 7 September.
