First friendly brings a convincing win for Zalgiris 15
Zalgiris Kaunas have made a victorious start to the preparation cycle for the upcoming season. Zalgiris defeated 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys by 90-57 (17-12, 27-18, 21-8, 25-19) on Friday.
Kevarrius Hayes scored the Lithuanian champions’ first points of the preparation cycle, while Edgaras Ulanovas and Danielius Lavrinovicius scored on free throws. Keenan Evans, who returned to the line-up after a long break, opened his scoring with a reverse layup to make it 7-6. Hayes scored two more points, Naz Mitrou-Long made two three-pointers in a row, and Laurynas Birutis finished the quarter with a successful back-to-basket shot to make it 17-12.
In the second quarter, Arnas Butkevicius made two three-pointers, Birutis and Hayes scored from the top of the key, and Mitrou-Long made his third three-pointer, 30-17. Dovydas Giedraitis finished the fast break with easy points, Hayes scored back-to-back baskets, Ulanovas made four in a row, Lavrinovicius hit a three-pointer from the corner, and almost at the buzzer of the second quarter, Ulanovas also hit a three-pointer, 44-30.
After the break, Evans and Ulanovas added two more shots, Brady Manek scored his first points with two long-range bombs, and itrou-Long also made a triple, 57-32. Birutis and Hayes scored from under the basket, while Autkevicius made no mistake at the free throw line and finished the fast break, 65-38.
Lukas Lekavicius scored a mid-range jumper, Dovydas Butka scored two points from under the basket, Manek hit a two-pointer and Ulanovas connected from downtown to make it 74-49. Mitrou-Long made a three-pointer as time expired, Lavrinovicius scored a two-pointer with a foul, Ulanovas made two tough two-pointers, and Butkevicius finished the game with eight consecutive points, 90-57.
Butkevicius didn’t miss a shot and was the best scorer for Zalgiris with 18 points. Mitrou-Long made 5 three-pointers, as he and Ulanovas scored 15 points each.
