Ignas Brazdeikis moves to Olympiacos Piraeus 28
Ignas Brazdeikis is leaving Zalgiris Kaunas. After the Lithuanian national team player and Olympiacos Piraeus reached an agreement, Brazdeikis will move to the EuroLeague vice-champions, while Zalgiris will receive a solid buyout.
“At this stage of the season, you don’t want to make a big change, but after receiving an offer from the EuroLeague runners-up, Brazdeikis expressed his desire to leave the team. We were also approached by Olympiacos Piraeus, so we had to look for a common solution and the best conditions in this situation. We expressed our position in the negotiations, and with the other side agreeing to it, we had to take this difficult decision. In any case, we thank Ignas for the year he spent here,” said Zalgiris Kaunas Director Paulius Jankunas.
Zalgiris is already looking for a replacement for Brazdeikis.
“With so little time left before the start of the EuroLeague season, looking for reinforcements is not easy, but we are working on it. On the other hand, we have seen in the tournament in Cyprus that the current 12 players can go head-to-head with EuroLeague teams, so we are not losing our optimism,” said Zalgiris’ director.
Brazdeikis, who got injured in the last FIBA World Cup game, travelled with Zalgiris to a training camp in Cyprus, but did not appear on the court in the friendly tournament, where Zalgiris met Olympiacos and Crvena Zvezda Belgrade.
Brazdeikis, who joined Zalgiris in the summer of 2022, averaged 11.6 points, grabbed 2.9 rebounds and made 1.3 assists per game in his debut EuroLeague season.
In the Betsafe-LKL Championship, he scored 8.6 points, grabbed 2.9 rebounds and had 1.6 assists per game.
