Zalgiris takes home victory over Siauliai 12
Zalgiris Kaunas (9-1) won their ninth victory in this season’s Betsafe-LKL Championship. Kazys Maksvytis’ team defeated Siauliai (1-9) by 89-74 (16-15, 29-20, 22-28, 22-11) at Zalgirio Arena.
Lukas Lekavicius alley-ooped to Laurynas Birutis on the first possession, Naz Mitrou-Long made two drives to the basket and Danielius Lavrinovicius scored from long range to make it 9-8. Brady Manek finished two consecutive possessions with two-handed dunks, and at the end of the quarter, Tomas Dimsa’s three-pointer made it 16-15.
Kevarrius Hayes made four free throws, Dovydas Giedraitis added two mid-range shots and Mitrou-Long scored from long range, 27-19. D.Lavrinovicius made a poster dunk over his opponent, Lukas Lekavicius scored two points with a foul and made a three-pointer, Dovydas Butka and Mitrou-Long scored inside, Birutis added four points, and Lekavicius finished the first half with a two-pointer to make the score 45-35.
After the break, the hosts had to wait almost three minutes for their first points, which were scored by Mitrou-Long with a three-pointer (48-44). Edgaras Ulanovas and Manek scored five points each, and Lekavicius scored nine more to make it 67-63.
Dimsa scored six points, Lavrinovicius connected twice from long range, and Zalgiris regained a double-digit lead, 79-66. Giedraitis scored two points, Lavrinovicius hit two more three-pointers and Manek scored two more points to clinch the victory, 89-74.
Lavrinovicius and Lekavicius were the leading scorers for Zalgiris with 17 points. Mitrou-Long finished the game with 12, as Manek scored 11 points.
