Neptunas grants second loss for Zalgiris in Betsafe-LKL 41
Zalgiris Kaunas (9-2) suffered a defeat in the Lithuanian championship. Kazys Maksvytis’ team lost 76-88 (16-31, 16-21, 22-10, 22-26) to Neptunas Klaipeda (5-6) at Zalgirio Arena.
Zalgiris started the game with two successful attacks by Dovydas Giedraitis and Kevarrius Hayes, but then allowed a 0-12 run by Neptunas, 4-12. Keenan Evans, Edgaras Ulanovas and Lukas Lekavicius scored, while Laurynas Birutis added six points, but the difference grew even bigger, 16-31.
Brady Manek scored four points, Nedas Montvila made a long-range jumper, and Edgaras Ulanovas hit one free throw, 24-45. Rolands Smits was aggressive under the basket, Evans finished a fast break, but after the first half the teams were still separated by big margin, 32-52.
Evans scored six points, Ulanovas and Birutis added 2 each, and Giedraitis hit two three-pointers, 45-58. Evans drove twice inside and Ulanovas made two free throws to cut the deficit to single digits, 54-62.
At the beginning of the final quarter, Zalgiris lost another 0-8 run, then Giedraitis connected again from long range, Ulanovas, Evans and Birutis scored, and Lekavicius added four points to make the score 67-75. Evans and Arnas Butkevicius scored from long range, Smits added a free throw and Evans scored from under the basket, but it didn’t change the outcome of the game, 76-88.
Evans was the leading scorer for Zalgiris with 21 points. Giedraitis added 11, Birutis finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
