High-scoring trio propels Zalgiris past Milan 28
Zalgiris Kaunas celebrated an impressive 83-70 win over EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Round 11 game on the road. It improved the Lithuanian side’s record to 5-6, while the Italian team slipped to 4-7.
Edgaras Ulanovas paced Zalgiris with 20 points – 11 of them in the first quarter, having also racked up 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Keenan Evans added 19 points and Roland Smits chipped in with 16, with the trio dismantling Milan as the visitors shot 11-of-21 from downtown.
At the other end, Shavon Shields stood out for the home team with 21 points. Nikola Mirotic scored 14 and Devon Hall netted 11, but Milan misfired from thee-point range as the hosts made only 8 of 26 shots from beyond the arc.
Having trailed at the end of the opening period, Zalgiris hit top gear in the second quarter and never looked back after romping away into a 38-27 lead shortly before halftime.
Milan launched several comeback attempts in the second half but the hosts were repelled by magnificent three-point shooting from Zalgiris.
At the other end, the visiting team’s defense looked like a brick wall, insurmountable for Milan despite a fine individual performance from Shields. Milan managed to slash the deficit to 59-52 at the end of the third quarter but there was no way back for the home side after Zalgiris pulled away to 79-66 in the closing stages.
