AS Monaco beats Zalgiris in a close battle 64
Round 13 of the 2023-24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season ended with Zalgiris Kaunas (5-8) loss. Kazys Maksvytis’ team lost 79-83 (19-23, 18-23, 22-11, 20-26) to AS Monaco (8-5) at Zalgirio Arena.
Dovydas Giedraitis made a drive, Kevarrius Hayes hit a mid-range jumper and Rolands Smits scored from under the basket, but AS Monaco had a better start, 6-13. Smits and Laurynas Birutis scored inside, while Giedraitis, Edmond Sumner and Tomas Dimsa hit a three-pointer each,19-23.
Dimsa scored twice from under the basket, while Edgaras Ulanovas and Danielius Lavrinovicius added long-range shots, 29-35. Giedraitis connected from downtown again, Keenan Evans scored his first points with a three-pointer, and Hayes made a putback dunk, 37-46.
Hayes finished off the attack with a spectacular dunk, while Evans and Ulanovas scored tough buckest, 43-51. Dimsa and Ulanovas each hit a three-pointer, and after six points from Sumner, a layup from Birutis and a successful raid under the basket by Dimsa, Zalgiris was already ahead 59-57.
Birutis and Ulanovas contributed after offensive rebounds, but that was all Zalgiris scored in the 5 minutes, 63-63. Then Smits scored nine points, Evans added five and Dimsa scored from under the basket, but the opponents sealed the win, 79-83.
Tomas Dimsa scored 14 for Zalgiris, Rolands Smits collected 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Edgaras Ulanovas and Keenan Evans scored 10 a piece.
MikeJames, who moved up to third place all-time in scoring in the EuroLeague, led the way for AS Monaco with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Jaron Blossomgame scored 13, Elie Okobo had 12 and Alpha Diallo 11 points.
