Zalgiris defeats Kedainiai in a high-scoring match 16
Zalgiris Kaunas (11-2) achieved another victory in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. Kazys Maksvytis’ team defeated Nevezis-Optibet Kedainiai (2-11) 102-98 (23-25, 23-32, 37-15, 19-26) at Zalgirio Arena.
Danielius Lavrinovicius scored four points early in the game, Dovydas Giedraitis made drive to the basket, Edmond Sumner added five points in a row and Edgaras Ulanovas hit a three-pointer to make it 14-15. Kevarrius Hayes and Rolands Smits added two points apiece, Nedas Montvila hit a three-pointer and Keenan Evans made two free throws, 23-25.
Smits, Sumner, Lavrinovicius and Laurynas Birutis scored two points apiece, Evans hit a free throw and Giedraitis made two 3-pointers, 40-41. In the remaining four minutes of the quarter, Evans and Giedraitis scored three points each, but the opponents connected on their 9th three-pointer, 46-57.
After the break, the Zalgiris switched gears. Smits scored eleven points, Evans added six, Giedraitis hit a three-pointer and the hosts took the lead, 66-63. Tomas Dimsa scored eleven points, Sumner added five, and Lavrinovicius scored another two-pointer to make it 83-72.
Dimsa started the last quarter with another three-pointer and then Birutis scored eight points in a row to make it 94-84. Hayes and Dimsa scored from the free-throw line, Montvila scored inside, and Smits clinched the victory with free-throws, 102-98.
Smits was the leading scorer for Zalgiris with 17 points. Dimsa added 16, while Giedraitis and Evans scored 14 points apiece.
