Zalgiris can‘t stop Partizan at home 73
Zalgiris Kaunas (5-9) was unable to stop Partizan Belgrade (8-6) at Zalgirio Arena. Kazys Maksvytis’ team lost 85-93 (21-29, 23-29, 20-18, 21-17) in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Round 14.
Kevin Punter paced the winners with 22 points. PJ Dozier added 16 points, James Nunnally had 14, Zach LeDay 13 and Bruno Caboclo 12 for Partizan.
Keenan Evans led Zalgiris with a career high 33 points. Rolands Smits added 18 and Tomas Dimsa had 11 for the hosts.
The game started slowly for the Zalgiris team. Dovydas Giedraitis scored and Laurynas Birutis made a free throw, but the opponents quickly built up a double-digit lead, 3-13. Keenan Evans gathered eight points, Tomas Dimsa scored five, Rolands Smits made a long-range shot and Danielius Lavrinovicius made two free throws ,21-29.
Birutis scored inside, Smits and Kevarrius Hayes added four points each, and Austin Hollins, who made his debut, made a three-pointer, 35-44. Giedraitis connected from long range, Smits made a free throw and Evans scored five points, 44-58.
After the break, Evans scored six more points, Dimsa hit a three-pointer, and after five points from Smits, Zalgiris got closer, 58-64. Hayes and Lavrinovicius were successful under the basket, while Edmond Sumner hit free throws to make it 64-76.
Evans and Smits scored five points apiece at the halfway point of the decisive quarter, but it didn’t help to reduce the deficit, 74-86. Evans continued his impressive performance with eight more points and Dimsa scored three more, but the opponents had the upper hand, 85-93.
