Zalgiris defeats Wolves with a great defense 26
Zalgiris Kaunas (12-2) won another game in the Lithuanian Basketball League. Kazys Maksvytis’ team defeated Wolves Vilnius (11-3) by 79-55 (18-10, 23-15, 21-20, 17-10) at Zalgirio Arena.
The game started unproductively, and only Edgaras Ulanovas managed to score six points in 5 minutes, 6-10. Then Laurynas Birutis nailed two free throws, Danielius Lavrinovicius connected on a three-pointer and made a putback, Tomas Dimsa drove to the basket, and Austin Hollins finished the quarter with a three-pointer, 18-10.
Dimsa also scored from long range, Hollins drew applause for tough layup and Kevarrius Hayes hit a mid-range shot to make it 25-18. Keenan Evans and Dimsa hit three-pointers, Birutis scored six points, Dimsa converted steal into a dunk, and Lavrinovicius scored two at the buzzer of the second quarter, 41-25.
Birutis scored four more points and Rolands Smits added three two-pointers, 51-37. Dovydas Giedraitis scored his first points with a drive to the left, Edmond Sumner scored from long range, Lavrinovicius converted his free throws and Hayes finished the third quarter with two shots from under the basket, 62-45.
Smits scored six points in a row at the start of the fourth period, but that was all of his team’s points in five minutes, 68-52. Birutis added three more points, Evans and Hollins hit a three-pointer each and Lavrinovicius scored two points after an offensive rebound to make it 79-55.
Birutis was the best scorer for Zalgiris with 15 points. Smits added 12, Lavrinovicius finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
