Zalgiris starts Cup quarter-finals with a confident victory 13
Zalgiris Kaunas started the quarter-final series of the Citadele Karalius Mindaugas Cup against Wolves Vilnius with a confident victory. The Lithuanian champions won the match 95-76 (28-13, 22-25, 17-16, 28-22) in Kedainiai.
Laurynas Birutis and Rolands Smits scored four points each at the start of the game, Keenan Evans and Edgaras Ulanovas added to the tally, and Edmond Sumner hit a long-range shot to make it 15-7. Birutis scored two more points from under the basket, Tomas Dimsa sank free throws, Lukas Lekavicius and Evans hit two-point shots, Kevarrius Hayes dunked on the fast break and Brady Manek hit a three-pointer, 28-13.
Austin Hollins made two free throws, Manek added a floater and two free throws, and Lekavicius had five points, 39-23. Dovydas Giedraitis opened his scoring with a drive, Smits scored four points, and Sumner made a good shot from distance, 50-38.
Birutis and Ulanovas converted free throws, Sumner hit his third three-pointer, but the opponents got closer, 57-48. Dimsa made one free throw, Manek scored four points in a row, Danielius Lavrinovicius finished a fast break, and Dimsa made a three-pointer from the corner in another fast break, 67-54.
Evans and Lekavicius scored from long range, and Manek, who played a great stretch, scored 11 points to make it 84-61. Birutis scored eight consecutive points, Smits made a free throw and Sumner finished the game with a dunk, 95-76.
Manek was the leading scorer with 22 points, Birutis added 16, while Sumner finished with 11 points.
