Zalgiris achieves a confident victory in Klaipėda 30
Zalgiris Kaunas (17/2) extended their winning streak in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated Neptunas Klaipeda (6/12) by 95-75 (24-13, 24-22, 27-20, 20-20) on the road.
Laurynas Birutis scored the first 4 points for Zalgiris, Edmond Sumner made a free throw and Keenan Evans added a three-pointer, 8-2. The guests continued their three-point shooting with Arnas Butkevicius, Sumner, Evans and Tomas Dimsa scoring from long range, 20-9. Kevarrius Hayes’ 4 points closed the first quarter, 24-13.
Butkevicius from under the basket and Lekavicius with a long-range shot increased the lead, 29-15. Rolands Smits scored 5 points, Sumner made a basket, while Brady Manek’s three-pointer and Birutis’ dunk increased the difference to 18 points (41-23). Edgaras Ulanovas and Birutis hit one free throw each, another free three-pointer was made by Manek, and Birutis scored after good ball movement to make it 48-35.
In the third quarter, Zalgiris players shared the ball well, with Birutis and Smits scoring after nice passes, and Dovydas Giedraitis connecting from long range, 55-38. Birutis scored 6 more points, Smits was found by Ulanovas on the fast break, and Sumner’s seventh assist was converted by Hayes, 65-47. Giedraitis broke through under the basket, Manek hit 3 free throws and Evans scored 5 points, 75-55.
The fourth quarter opened with a jewel-like pass from Lekavicius to Hayes and a three-pointer from Dimsa, 80-59. Lekavicius added 5 points in a row, Giedraitis scored after the steal, and at the end of the game Sumner’s back-to-back assists were completed by Smits and Hayes, 95-75.
Birutis was the best scorer with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Hayes collected 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, while Evans and Smits added 11 points each.
