Zalgiris loses in Munich 14
Zalgiris Kaunas (11-18) suffered a defeat in the EuroLeague Round 29. Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost 58-64 (10-18, 11-15, 16-17, 21-14) to Bayern Munich (13-16) on the road.
Keenan Evans opened the game with a lay-up and Laurynas Birutis scored four points in a row, but then Kaunas fell behind 6-14. Lukas Lekavicius and Kevarrius Hayes added two points each in the last two minutes of the first quarter, 10-18.
The offense did not work in the second quarter either, with three-pointers from Evans and Lekavicius, two points from Edgaras Ulanovas and three points from Hayes being the only baskets, 21-33.
After the break, Brady Manek hit a three-pointer, Hayes, Lekavicius and Evans scored two points each, but the difference grew even more, 30-47. Lekavicius and Birutis made a basket each, and Manek connected on another long-range shot, 37-50.
Manek scored five consecutive points at the beginning of the last quarter, Ulanovas scored a two-pointer and Evans made a three-pointer to cut the deficit to single digits, 47-56. Evans then made three three-pointers and added a two-pointer, but it didn’t save the game from being lost, 58-64.
Center Devin Booker paced Bayern with 20 points and 6 rebounds, while guards Carsen Edwards and Sylvain Francisco scored 10 each for the home side.
At the other end, Evans led Zalgiris with a game-high 21 points and Manek chipped in with 11, but the visitors were held to 9-of-30 from downtown and 15-of-31 from two-point range by Bayern’s ironclad defense.
