Zalgiris suffers fourth defeat in Betsafe-LKL 26
Zalgiris Kaunas (25-4) suffered a defeat in the Lithuanian Championship. Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost 93-97 (26-17, 13-35, 26-25, 28-20) to Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius (22-8) on the road.
Keenan Evans scored seven points on free throws, Laurynas Birutis made two shots and Edgaras Ulanovas added eight points for a 19-6 lead. Kevarrius Hayes dunked it home and Demetre Rivers scored five points to make it 26-17 at the end of the first period.
Rivers started the second quarter with a three-pointer, Evans scored four points and Brady Manek had a two-pointer to make it 35-19. Then Zalgiris went down 0-27, and the scoring draught was ended by free throws from Hayes and a layup from Ulanovas, 39-52.
After the break, Birutis scored four points, Rolands Smits added a two-pointer, and Rivers and Dovydas Giedraitis hit a three-pointer each, 51-65. Evans, Hayes, Giedraitis and Smits scored two points each, while Edmond Sumner had six points to finish third quarter at 65-77.
At the beginning of the final quarter, Giedraitis raided the basket, Evans shot well from long range and made three free throws, and Ulanovas scored from the free throw line as well, 75-81. Birutis scored four more points, Ulanovas added two more, while Sumner scored twice from long range and Smits made a long shot to tie the score, 90-90. Smits made a quick three-pointer to put his team ahead, but Zalgiris fell short in the last minute, 93-97.
Evans was the leading scorer with 19 points and 8 assists. Ulanovas scored 14 points, while Birutis and Sumner had 12 points apiece.
