Zalgiris finishes quarter-finals with a road win 5
Zalgiris Kaunas didn’t waste time to get to the Betsafe-LKL semi-finals. In the second game of the quarter-final series, Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated M Basket-Delamode Mazeikiai 76-58 (23-14, 17-22, 18-10, 18-12) and won the series 2-0.
Keenan Evans started the game with a 2+1 action, Tomas Dimsa scored twice from long range, and Laurynas Birutis dunked after Brady Manek’s assist, 11-7. Birutis added four more points, Edgaras Ulanovas and Rolands Smits scored two points each, and Edmond Sumner and Lukas Lekavicius drove to the basket at the end of the first quarter to make it 23-14.
Lekavicius was smooth with another floater, Birutis scored five points in a row and Ulanovas made a dunk after a steal, 32-16. Dimsa scored inside, while Brady Manek and Lekavicius hit a three-pointer each, 40-36.
Evans made six free throws, Dimsa was successful again, and Birutis and Manek scored four points each, 56-39. In the remaining five minutes of the quarter, Zalgiris’ offence stalled and the only two points were scored by Smits on free throws, 58-46.
Kevarrius Hayes scored five points at the beginning of the final quarter, Ulanovas made a free throw and Manek connected on a three-pointer, 67-50. Demetre Rivers scored from the free-throw line and hit a three-pointer, Dimsa scored a point, and Danielius Lavrinovicius sealed the victory with a long-range shot ,76-58.
Birutis was the best scorer with 15 points. Dimsa tallied 11 points, while Manek scored 10 points and contributed 8 assists.
