Zalgiris starts the semi-finals with a convincing victory 11
Zalgiris Kaunas started the Betsafe-LKL semi-finals series against 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys with a confident victory. Andrea Trinchieri’s team started the series at Zalgirio Arena with a 93-72 (33-14, 15-24, 18-22, 27-12) victory.
Brady Manek and Tomas Dimsa each hit a three-pointer early in the game, while Laurynas Birutis scored four points and Keenan Evans scored five in a row to make it 15-6. Demetre Rivers scored five points, Kevarrius Hayes and Dovydas Giedraitis added four points each, Rolands Smits scored from under the basket and Edmond Sumner swished a three-pointer to make it 33-14.
Smits scored again from under the basket, Evans made a two-pointer with a foul, Hayes scored a two-pointer and Tomas Dima converted a free throw, 41-24. Rivers added five points in a row, Evans made two free throws, but the difference was slightly reduced, 48-38.
After the break, Brady Manek made a three-pointer, Sumner had a raid under the basket, Evans scored two more points with a foul, and Birutis dunked it to make it 58-46. Evans was good on a mid-range jumper, Edgaras Ulanovas added four in a row and Lukas Lekavicius scored his first points – 66-60.
Two-pointers by Rivers and Giedraitis and three points by Hayes restored the double-digit lead (73-63), and after two more points by Giedraitis and a three-pointer by Lekavicius, Zalgiris pulled away, 78-63. Birutis scored six points, Ulanovas had five, Sumner scored on the fast break and Lekavicius we perfect from the free throw line, 93-72.
Evans led Zalgiris with 15 points. Rivers and Birutis scored 12 points each to start the best-of-5 series with a win.
