Hayes snatches victory on the buzzer in the second game of the semi-finals 24
Zalgiris Kaunas won the second game of the Betsafe-LKL best-of-5 semi-finals series. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys 90-89 (16-22, 22-17, 23-29, 29-21).
The game in Panevezys started with a layup by Laurynas Birutis, then Edgaras Ulanovas and Keenan Evans hit a three-pointer each, and Evans made two more free throws to make it 10-6. Kevarrius Hayes and Edmond Sumner scored inside and Lukas Lekavicius made free throws, but Zalgiris was trailing after 10 minutes, 16-22.
Lukas Lekavicius scored from long range, Birutis tallied six points, and Evans made a raid under the basket, 27-30. Evans scored seven more points, Dovydas Giedraitis added two more, and Hayes finished the quarter with a good shot from under the basket, 38-39.
After the break, Birutis scored easy points, Brady Manek added four, and Evans hit two three-pointers in a row, 50-53. Lekavicius made two three-pointers in a row, Dovydas Giedraitis made free throws and Brady Manek connected on a long-range shot, 61-68.
At the beginning of the decisive quarter, Ulanovas and Evans scored on free throws, Lekavicius hit a three-pointer and Zalgiris was already ahead, 71-70. Rolands Smits hit a free throw, Ulanovas scored seven points, Birutis dunked twice in a row, and the teams were separated by just a point with a minute to play, 83-82. Evans hit a tough three-pointer, Hayes corrected his teammate’s missed shot, but with a few seconds to play the visitors were back in the chase with 88-89. However, in the last possession of the game, Evans’ missed shot was put in by Hayes with the buzzer sounding, and Zalgiris celebrated a 90-89 victory.
Evans was the best scorer with 27 points. Lekavicius and Birutis added 14 points each.
