Zalgiris loses the second game of the final series after overtime 67
Zalgiris Kaunas suffered the second defeat in the Betsafe-LKL Finals series. Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost to Rytas Vilnius 94-104 (30-19, 20-25, 17-27, 20-16, 7-17) in overtime and fell behind 0-2 in the best-of-5 series.
Laurynas Birutis scored seven points, Edmond Sumner added four, and Tomas Dimsa made a long-range shot to make it 14-7. Edgaras Ulanovas and Arnas Butkevicius scored on free throws, Demetre Rivers and Rolands Smits hit a three-pointer each, and Lukas Lekavicius scored four points to make it 30-19.
Smits and Ulanovas made no mistakes at the free-throw line and Birutis scored inside, but that was all Zalgiris’ points in the 5 minutes of second period, 36-34. Ulanovas added another point, Kevarrius Hayes scored two more, Lekavicius and Rivers hit three-pointers, and Dovydas Giedraitis opened his tally, 50-44.
Ulanovas scored twice inside, Giedraitis made a free throw, Birutis added four points and Lekavicius made a long-range shot, 62-50. Hayes dunked it home, Dimsa made a free throw, Giedraitis raided the free throw line, but Zalgiris was already chasing their opponents, 67-71.
Birutis scored seven points in a few minutes, and Ulanovas added a two-pointer with a foul, while the teams were separated by a point, 77-78. Lekavicius, Birutis and Ulanovas scored tweo-pointers, Smits made a three-pointer and Ulanovas sank a free throw, and the score was tied at 87-87 with a minute to play. Both teams didn’t score, and the game went into overtime.
Zalgiris started the overtime 0-5, when Lekavicius scored a floater, Ulanovas and Birutis made two free throws each and Giedraitis added a point, but the hosts had the upper hand, 94-104.
Birutis collected 24 points and 6 rebounds. Ulanovas had 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Lekavicius scored 17 points with 5 assists.
