Zalgiris extends Betsafe-LKL Finals with home win 20
Zalgiris Kaunas finally opened the win column in Game 3 of the Betsafe-LKL Finals series at Zalgirio Arena. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated Rytas Vilnius 91-81 (25-15, 22-21, 19-20, 25-25) to record the first victory in the best-of-5 series.
Laurynas Birutis scored the first points for Kaunas with a dunk, then Edmond Sumner scored eight points in a row, Dovydas Giedraitis added a shot, and Edgaras Ulanovas made free throws to make it 14-6. Tomas Dimsa connected on a three-pointer, Lekavicius made his trademark one-handed floater, Kevarrius Hayes and Brady Manek scored from under the basket, and at the end of the quarter Ulanovas made his free throws, 25-15.
Sumner started the second quarter with five consecutive points, Hayes scored inside and Ulanovas made a three-pointer, 35-21. Arnas Butkevicius raided the basket, Birutis scored three points, and Lekavicius scored seven in a row, 47-36.
Rolands Smits scored his first points right after the break, Birutis made a dunk and a two-pointer, Sumner scored from long range, and Giedraitis made a mid-range jumper, 58-45. Lekavicius and Dimsa also were active, Sumner made another long-range shot and Butkevicius added a point from the free-throw line, 66-56.
Lekavicius started the quarter with a three-pointer, Ulanovas hit a three-pointer with a foul, and Hayes finished an alley-oop slam to make it 75-63. Lekavicius made another three-pointer, Sumner finished the raid under the basket, and Ulanovas, Sumner, Giedraitis, Hayes and Lekavicius scored on free throws to seal the victory, 91-81.
Sumner was the leading scorer for Zalgiris with 22 points. Lekavicius added 19 points, while Ulanovas had 14.
