Zalgiris tabs EuroCup’s top scorer Deividas Sirvydis 17
Zalgiris Kaunas has added one of the most talented Lithuanian players of his generation. Deividas Sirvydis will wear the green and white jersey from the upcoming season, having signed a 2+1 contract.
The guard, who has NBA experience, wore the jersey of 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys last season, competed in the EuroCup and won a bronze medal at the Lithuanian Championship.
“I have worked hard all my career to make it to the EuroLeague. It’s a lot of fun. I can’t say I ever expected to be here in my life. It might have been a thought somewhere deep down, but it feels really great. I’m looking forward to helping the team,” Sirvydis told Žalgiris.lt.
Sirvydis had an impressive game in the EuroCup, averaging 18.9 points (42.3% three-pointers) in just over 30 minutes and was the tournament’s top scorer.
The versatile player also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 17.8 points.
“In Lithuania, no one has doubted Deividas’ talent for a long time, and his return to Lithuania has only confirmed that and he has had a breakthrough season. Zalgiris always wants to have the best Lithuanian players in its ranks, and that’s why Sirvydis ended up here. We think he is ready for EuroLeague basketball,” said Zalgiris President Paulius Jankunas.
Sirvydis, who started his career in Vilnius, was drafted 37th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and moved from Hapoel Jerusalem (Israel) to the Detroit Pistons, where he played 23 games in the NBA.
The Lithuanian national team member was selected to the Betsafe-LKL Championship’s symbolic five. He scored 15.6 points, grabbed 3.1 rebounds and had 2.2 assists per game in the Lithuanian championship.
