Milaknis shines bright, Zalgiris defeats Suduva 0
Zalgiris Kaunas players played Saturday’s Lithuanian League (LKL) game against Suduva Marijampole with Euroleague in their minds.
The club from Kaunas drove past the visiting Sudovians 97:59 and achieved the tenth victory in the domestic league to remain the only undefeated team in LKL.
Arturas Milaknis hit 5 of 9 long range attempts to collect 16 points overall and top Zalgiris in scoring, while Martynas Pocius and Marcus Brown had 14 points each. Suduva’s Mantas Ruikis had a game-high 18 points, adding 7 rebounds, Raimundas Danys collected 11 as Vytautas Nedzinskas and Matas Niparavicius scored 8 each.
“Today we were preparing for Thursday’s game against Cibona Zagreb, applying schemes that we will be using the Croats”, said assistant coach Darius Maskoliunas. Ramunas Butautas’ side had to do without the starting point guard Mantas Kalnietis, who wasn’t even registered for the game.
“I have no doubts that Kalnietis will play against Cibona. He just had a food poisoning”, Maskoliunas explained. The visitors from Marijampole surrendered in the end of the second period, when Arturas Milaknis started a three-pointer contest of his own and hit four consecutive long range attempts to knock Suduva out and bring Zalgiris’ advantage to 50:26.
The view on the court did not change in the second half of the game and Zalgiris took yet another easy victory in the Lithuanian League.
