Zalgiris slumps to defeat in Ventspils 0
Zalgiris suffered a second defeat in a row as the club from Kaunas managed to lose 80:94 against Ventspils in the Baltic Basketball League (BBL) on Saturday.
Martynas Pocius led the visitors with 15 points, Adas Juskevicius had 10, Aleksandar Capin netted 9 as Marcus Brown added 8 on 1 of 9 two pointers.
Dainius Salenga, who had a good game in Euroleague didn’t play for Zalgiris, but Tadas Klimavicius was already on the roster and finished the match with 11 points.
Ernests Kalve had a game-high 25, Dairis Bertanis was one point shy of equaling his teammates achievement with 24 while Sandis Buskevics ended the game with 17 in his account.
The hosts reached a double-digit advantage already in the 16 minutes of the game – 40:30. However, Zalgiris closed the distance to four as Mario Delas netted a bucket worth two points and Martynas Pocius converted a four-point play. But the Latvians regained a notable margin and finished the first half ahead by 9 – 47:38.
Mirza Begic’s points had shrunk Ventspils advantage to 8 (56:64), but former Lietuvos Rytas player Sandis Buskevics nailed a three-pointer and Ernests Kalve scored two points to near their side to a sensational victory – 69:56.
Zalgiris tried to grab a life-line using long-range attempts, but the hosts fired more accurately and sealed a fairly confident victory.
