CSKA comes out on top against Zalgiris 0
Zalgiris Kaunas couldn’t go all the way in the Alexander Gomelsky Cup losing 73:79 to the historic rivals CSKA Moscow in the final of the friendly tournament in Russia.
The home team started the game better and raced to a 26:10 lead after the first quarter. However, Zalgiris didn’t look to be giving up so soon and got within single-digits at 39:40 at the end of the first half.
Zalgiris took a two-point lead after Arturas Milaknis hit a three-pointer in the beginning of the third quarter, but CSKA raced right back to a six-point lead to end the period (66:60).
With the score at 77:73 in favor of CSKA, Zalgiris’ center Mirza Begic shot two free-thows, but missed both with 50 seconds on the clock. Matjaz Smodis scored two points in the next possession and sealed the game.
Travis Watson scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Zalgiris, Mantas Kalnietis and Tomas Delininkaitis chipped in 9 each as Mindaugas Kuzminskas added 8 for the Greens.
Matjaz Smodis had a game-high 21 points as well as 8 rebounds, Boban Marjanovic had a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards while Jamont Gordon added 14.
