Zalgiris comfortably through to Baltic league final 0
The first semifinal of the Baltic League (BBL) final four ended with Zalgiris massacring their Latvian rivals Venstpils 108-53 (30-14, 31-11, 26-12, 21-18). The Greens from Kaunas will meet with VEF Riga, who upset Lietuvos Rytas in the other semifinal.
“We were concentrated and played good defense. Usually when you play good defense, you win. Sometimes we play good on offense, sometimes not so well, but defense like this always brings victories,” Ilias Zouros, the Greek coach of Zalgiris, said after the game.
Marcus Brown led Zalgiris in scoring with 21 points, Mantas Kalnietis had 14 while Mindaugas Kumzinskas added 12. Travis Watson and Tadas Klimavicius shared 11 points each, as Paulius Jankunas and Tomas Delininkaitis both had 10.
“Zalgiris played very well for the entire game and we could manage only four minutes. There’s nothing else to comment,” Ventspils coach Guntis Endzels was frank in his post-game statement.
Ventpils’ was led by Brandon Hunter, who had 13 points in the game, Aksels Vairogs scored 10 while Rashad Anderson and Maris Gulbis finished the game with 7 points each.
