Zalgiris arrives to Turkey for a practice camp 0
Zalgiris Kaunas is continuing its preparation for the 70th Anniversary Season abroad. The team arrived to Turkey, where they will practice for a week.
Lithuanian champions are living and improving their physical condition in the city of Muğla that is situated 30 kilometers away from the Aegean Sea.
All travel and accommodation expenses were covered and supported mainly by Turkish Republic Ministry of Culture and Tourism via Helsinki Embassy Counselor Office of Cultural Affairs and Promotion, as well as by Muğla City Municipality.
“It is very beneficial to change the location and environment of the training camp while preparing for the new season, since the bonds between individual players and coaches develop more effectively. We have great training conditions in Zalgiris arena, but we are going to spend the whole year at home, therefore we accepted the offer from Turkey and we will practice in Muğla for a week. It is also possible that we will play a friendly match against some Turkish team” – said Šarūnas Jasikevičius, the coach of Zalgiris Kaunas.
Zalgiris arrived to Turkey with the flights of “Turkish Airlines”, the official sponsor of Euroleague Basketball. At first the team flew to Isntanbul and then travelled to Dalaman airport. The latter should sound familiar for Turkey-loving Lithuanians, since it is very close to the resort city of Marmaris.
13 players of the main Zalgiris squad came to Turkey. Only the captain of the team Paulius Jankunas will be missing, because he is competing in FIBA World Cup 2014 in Spain.
Zalgiris will come back to Lithuania on the 10 of September, when they will begin their intensive friendly-game cycle. It is going to be finished on the 27-28 of September, when Zalgiris will participate in Kaunas Akropolis Cup tournament in its very own Zalgiris arena.
