Gintaras Krapikas will continue to coach Zalgiris 0
Zalgiris Kaunas and head coach Gintaras Krapikas have reached an agreement to renew their contract together until the end of the 2015-16 season.
Krapikas led Zalgiris to Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 while also winning the Lithuanian League and Lithuanian Cup last season.
“I am happy that, after a successful season, Zalgiris offered me a contract extension. I thank the team’s management for that and also understand the responsibility that comes with it,” Krapikas said. “Maintaining and improving results are not easy goals, but I am sure that if we keep consistency and work together, we can have an even better season next year.”
Krapikas, age 54, became head coach of the team in April 2014 as he stepped in for Saulius Stombergas. He then led the team to the 2013-14 Lithuanian League title. Krapikas, also a former player of Zalgiris, was the team’s assistant coach for seven full seasons and previously headed the bench for 18 Euroleague games between 2008 and 2009.
He also coached Azovmash Mariupol for two months in 2011-12 and is working for the Lithuanian national team as an assistant coach, too.
