Zalgiris beats Neptunas to secure first place in LKL 2

Zalgiris Kaunas is now the current leader of Lithuanian Basketball League. In the rematch of last season’s finals Zalgiris defeated Neptunas Klaipeda 77:67 at Zalgirio arena on Sunday.

Zalgiris started the game with great confidence and high intensity, which allowed Kaunas team to have the lead after the first period – 20:14.

The greens did not stop in the second. Zalgiris were crashing the boards and demonstrated exemplary defense. Neptunas had a 15 point deficit before the halftime – 41:26.

Klaipeda team stepped up in the third: they took and made high quality shots and started to use zone defense effectively. But Zalgiris did not lose focus and managed to maintain a solid lead – 58:48.

Neptunas tried to get back in the game in the final quarter, but the defending champions were able to hold off their opponents and celebrated an important victory – 77:67.

Antanas Kavaliauskas played a brilliant match and led Zalgiris with 15 points. He also had 7 rebounds. Paulius Jankunas and Augusto Lima each added 10 points.

Vytautas Sarakauskas scored 12 for Neptunas, Mindaugas Kacinas got 11.
