Home court is defended with big victory vs. Lietuvos rytas 23
Zalgiris Kaunas defeated the rival Lietuvos rytas Vilnius at Zalgirio arena on Sunday. The greens were leading through the whole game and got an important victory 84:68 (26:14, 25:16, 15:24, 18:14).
The defending champions were on fire since the beginning of the match. They started the first quarter 8:0 and never looked back. The score before the second period was 26:14.
The second quarter was even more impressive to watch. Behind the efforts of Arturas Milaknis and Leo Westermann Zalgiris was able to gain a 20 point lead. It was raining threes throughout the quarter and at the end of it Zalgiris led 51:30.
The third quarter was the most important one. Lietuvos rytas tried their best to get back in the game – they managed to cut the deficit to 11 (60:49). However, Zalgiris players were able to maintain a solid lead before the final period – 66:54.
Westermann, Kevin Pangos and Brock Motum led Zalgiris in the final quarter. Their solid offensive performance was enough to secure the victory. Final score 84:68.
Pangos was the leading scorer for Zalgiris with 22 points (6 three-pointers). Motum added 15, Westermann had 12 points and 8 assists.
Drew Gordon scored 14 for Lietuvos rytas. Arturas Gudaitis got 13.
