First LKL home loss for Zalgiris 0

Zalgiris Kaunas experienced an unexpected loss on Sunday. The defending champions fell short against Neptunas Klaipeda at Zalgirio arena. Final score – 69:78 (16:20, 18:28, 20:11, 15:19).

Neptunas started off great and demonstrated amazing defense. Zalgiris still managed to get somewhat quality shots, but they just did not fall. Neptunas led 16:20 after the first.

Klaipeda team did not hold back and only increased their lead in the second period behind solid shooting from Chris Lofton. Zalgiris players just could not get to the basket easily and the team defense was not well organized. Neptunas led 34:48 after two periods.

Zalgiris tried their best to get back in the game in the third period. Behind solid performances by Edgaras Ulanovas and Arturas Milaknis, Kaunas team cut the deficit to just 5 points before the deciding quarter (54:59).

Zalgiris managed to get within just one point in the fourth (66:67). However, Neptunas kept the lead and closed out the match for their biggest victory of their LKL season so far. Final score – 69:78.

Arturas Milaknis scored 14 points for Zalgiris. Edgaras Ulanovas added 11.

Lofton was the leading scorer for Neptunas with 20 points. Daniel Ewing got 15.
