Axel Toupane joins Zalgiris Kaunas 136
Zalgiris Kaunas added depth and athleticism to its roster by inking swingman Axel Toupane to a one-year deal with an option for another season.
He is replacing forward Royce O’Neale who opted to cut newly signed contract with Zalgiris after getting offer from the NBA.
Toupane (1.97 meters, 25 years old) arrives from New Orleans of the NBA, where he averaged 5.5 points in two games last season. He started the 2015-16 season with Milwaukee of the NBA and also played for Raptors 905 Missisauga of the D-League, averaging 16.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 37 games before joining New Orleans.
He started his career with Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez’s U21 team and also played for Strasbourg of France and Denver of the NBA. He helped Strasbourg win two titles, the French Cup and the French Leaders Cup, in 2015.
Toupane also helped France win a silver medal at the 2012 U20 European Championships and a bronze one at the 2011 U20 European Championships.
