Jasikevicius gives his thoughts before trip to Russia 7
Zalgiris has left for Russia, where they will face off against Khimki in the 21st round of EuroLeague basketball.
Khimki has recently undergone a coaching change, with a well-known face in Rimas Kurtinaitis taking over the reigns of the team. Both sides suffered defeats in the EuroLeague last week and will surely hope to do better on Thursday.
Before the game, Sarunas Jasikevicius gave his take on the impact Rimas Kurtinaitis has had on Khimki’s game and said he’s getting ready for a gritty game.
“There are some things that have changed. They switched their defensive system, they’re being more aggressive on two-on-two situations. They’re trying to play a bit faster, as far as I can see. They’ve got a couple new plays. Some of them are Kurtinaitis’ older plays. It hasn’t been a long time for him with the team. But there’s been two more days since the Saratov game, perhaps they’ll bring in something new.”
Jasikevicius also gave an update on the health of his players. Both teams have recently been struck by injuries, and that, in part, is a reason not to expect a high-scoring affair.
“Kavaliauskas was practicing yesterday, participated in part of the team’s practice. We hope he gets a bit more in tonight and we’ll have to see how much he can help. I don’t think we can expect beautiful basketball. You can tell that Khimki is missing Shved, we’re missing a couple of guys. I think that it’ll be a game with quite a low scoring output and perhaps not that easy on the eye, but right now the only thing that matters is victory.”
