Zalgiris takes on Anadolu Efes in Gloria Cup 2
There was once again no shortage of exciting, high-scoring basketball, as Zalgiris and Anadolu Efes squared off in their Gloria Cup opener. The battle was taken into overtime, but the EuroLeague runners-up prevailed and took the 98-100 victory.
While the Turkish side managed to get off to a hot start, running up the score 11-21 early on in the game, Zalgiris didn’t wait around to get back into the game, cutting back the margin to just three.
It was a nip-and-tuck affair for the most part of the game, as the teams traded blow. Zalgiris did manage to pull ahead by double digits in the fourth quarter, but the lead was short-lived, as the margin was erased in a matter of minutes.
The two teams went on to overtime after an exchange of baskets late in regulation. That carried on to the extra time, where a true drama eventually witnessed Anadolu Efes coming out on top.
Nigel Hayes was out there doing wonders for Zalgiris offensively, scoring 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field. Zach LeDay added 23, as Alex Perez dropped 17 points and 4 assists. Rokas Jokubaitis ended up with 10 points and 5 assists, while Martinas Geben had 9. Arturas Milaknis accounted for 6 points, whereas Thomas Walkup scored just three points, but had 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
Zalgiris will look to bounce back on Thursday, as they take on Galatasaray at 8 PM.
