Last Friday, Zalgirio Arena witnessed the long-awaited EuroLeage game against FC Barcelona. The star studded Catalan side took home the victory, but there was no lack of drama and excitement around the arena. Dalia Belickaite and Zalgiris TV was there to capture it all.

One of the non-basketball stars that was in the building was Sergej Maslobejev, who had just returned from the World Kickboxing Championship, where he took the title.

“When I was a kid, that’s what I dreamed about, winning the title. I was scared to start, but once I did, I knew I won’t look back until I’m a world champion.”

Sergej, who goes by the nickname Kuvalda, meaning sledgehammer, admitted that the adrenaline in his blood while watching the game up close is pumping as much as it does in the kickboxing ring.

“It’s my second time watching the game in person. Overall, I’m not a huge basketball fan, but I always try to root for any Lithuanian teams. It’s really nice to see them up close, hearing how they run, breathe, pass the ball. No less adrenaline than in an actual fight.”

Another familiar face in the stands was stand-up comedian Mantas Katleris, who was watching the game with his buddy Mantas Stonkus.

“Zalgiris games are good to me as long as I can drink Cola. Cola is the equalizer. Mantas and I have agreed – I pay for the fuel and the driver. He pays for the tickets.”

After the game, Dalia Belickaite talked to Brandon Davies, who played the last two seasons in Kaunas. The new Barcelona signing appreciated the warm greeting by the sold-out crowd in Zalgirio Arena and addressed the atmosphere in the arena.

“It’s kind of hard to put into words. I’m definitely happy to be back. It’s a fun place to play whether you’re playing for them or against them. They bring a lot of spirit and energy.”
