Jasikevicius: “Khimki’s offensive potential is incredible” 35
Zalgiris is ready to close out its double EuroLeague week in Moscow, as they are set to face Khimki for their Round 15 match-up.
The Rimas Kurtinaitis-coached Russian side has been an offensive juggernaut in the EuroLeague this season, averaging 87.7 points per game, that has them ranked second. Nevertheless, Khimki is also the team that allows the opponents to score most – 88.6 points on average.
Before the game on Friday, Sarunas Jasikevicius shared his thoughts on his team’s upcoming opponents.
“Khimki’s offensive potential is incredible. Offensively, they are at the same level as the best teams in Europe. Perhaps even better than teams such as Anadolu Efes, Real Madrid, other teams… Defensively, they still need time to get a hang of Rimas’ system. It’s a new team, one with plenty of players coming in just this year. And in a situation like this, they need time. That’s clearly visible, and because of that there’s a bit of an up-and-down so far. Again, their offensive potential is off the charts.”
As in previous years, Alexey Shved is once again the team’s top scorer, dropping in an impressive 21.1 points per game. Besides the obvious offensive leader, Jasikevicius also pointed out point guards Chris Kramer and Stefan Jovic.
“Last year they had a lot of options, this year they have a lot of options. Shooter-wise, there’s aplenty. They’ve got two designated point guards, who can defend well, who can create, are tall. The centers also give a lot of problems, with good back-to-the-basket numbers. We come back to the same thing – the offensive talent is fantastic.”
Speaking of continuity from the previous game, Sarunas Jasikevicius reiterated that he was happy with what he saw out on the court on Tuesday against Anadolu Efes.
“We did some good things on Tuesday. We took 11 points away from Efes. There’s a lot of positives. Of course, we’ve got to extend those positive periods.”
