Zalgiris gains 6-point advantage in King Mindaugas Cup 41
The first leg of King Mindaugas Cup quarterfinal was played in Siauliai on Tuesday. Zalgiris Kaunas defeated Siauliai 85-79 on the road.
The guests were surging through the first quarter (18-8, 20-15) but Siauliai sent Zalgiris to knockout in the second quarter which they won 25-17. Although, that led only to three points lead after the first half (40-37).
Zalgiris took the control of the game back after the third quarter and were in the lead 63-56. Siauliai tried to come back but Zalgiris looked better in the clutch time.
Nigel Hayes was the top scorer for the visitors with 22 points. He converted all four three-pointers. Edgaras Ulanovas added 21 point and five three-pointers.
Siauliai center Rokas Gustys grabbed 16 rebounds and set new King Mindaugas Cup rebounds record. Siauliai grabbed 26 offensive rebounds – that is new all-time record too.
Gustys added 22 points, drawn 11 fouls and recorded 37 efficiency rating. 37 efficiency is tied for the third highest in King Mindaugas Cup history.
Second-leg of the quarterfinal between Zalgiris and Siauliai will be played on the 12th of the February in Zalgirio Arena.
