Zalgiris looks abroad in coaching searches 49
After Sarunas Jasikevicius left the team a week ago, Zalgiris’ intense search for a new head coach continues, with glances leaning away from Lithuania.
In last Thursday’s press conference, Zalgiris director Paulius Motiejunas mentioned that priority will be given to specialists from Lithuania, yet the situation has changed in recent days.
“We had a clear list of Lithuanian candidates, and we met up with several Lithuanian coaches. Darius Maskoliunas decided to join Sarunas Jasikevicius in Barcelona, while Kazys Maksvytis had commitments to his current club, therefore we extended our range of search. We have list of specialists from abroad. Our hope is that we find a coach that is hungry, motivated and receptive for innovation,” – said Motiejunas.
He added that the coaching searches will not interfere with building up the roster.
“As we form our roster, we see positions that need to be strengthened no matter what, therefore our coaching and player searches will occur simultaneously.”
Zalgiris recently announced that both Marius Grigonis and Lukas Lekavicius will continue to play in Kaunas next season.
