Zalgiris inks big man Augustine Rubit 14
As Zalgiris prepares for the upcoming season, Lithuanian champions continue filling out the roster. The green-and-whites’ latest addition is 30-year-old Augustine Rubit, who signed a 1+1 deal with Kaunas team.
Standing at 203 cm, Rubit can play power forward and center, and spent last season with Olympiacos Piraeus.
Before that Rubit spent time in several German teams. He started his professional career in the Tubingen Tigers and moved on to Ratiopharm Ulm afterwards. His breakout season came under the Brose Bamberg jersey.
The big man played 26 games in the EuroLeague last season, averaging 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds.
“We’re happy to bring in a player who had expressed a strong desire to play for Zalgiris. Last season saw a lot of changes both in the coaching and player ranks of the Greek side, and that stopped Rubit from bringing his best basketball to the floor. He’s motivated to put his entire potential to use in Kaunas.” – said Zalgiris director Paulius Motiejunas.
The Southern Alabama product had a great EuroLeague campaign in the 2017-2018 season, as he averaged 20.1 points and 4.7 rebounds playing for Brose Bamberg.
