Zalgiris continues season preparations in Palanga 0
Having had their Sunday morning practice in Zalgirio Arena, the green-and-whites packed their bags and will continue season preparations by the seaside. In a four-day training camp in Palanga, the Zalgiris players will not only practice, but will also play a friendly game against Lietkabelis.
In previous years, Zalgiris would take their preparations abroad, but due to the ongoing pandemic, this thought was quickly swayed away.
“The work doesn’t change much from what we did in Kaunas recently. We’re getting into that friendly game rhythm. There’s more basketball-related stuff, we add in the preparation exercises. But we’re more basketball-orientated now. Changing the environment is good to have the team spend more time together, to get everyone feeling like part of the team. That training camp is very short, but it allows the team to be together for a while,” – noted Zalgiris physical preparation coach Sigitas Kavaliauskas.
According to the specialist, Zalgiris season preparations is all going according to plan. Now the Kaunas side is looking forward to the EuroLeague We’re Back Preseason Tour.
“As we had planned before the preseason, everything’s going according to plan, and we are sticking to it. Our goals are to reduce the workload so that the players are in optimal form for this stage. We’ve got teams of a high caliber in the upcoming tournament, and with two consecutive games, we’re trying to ensure there’s no injuries, and that the players feel more ready for basketball.”
Zalgiris big man Martinas Geben was happy with the little trip away from Kaunas, and the motivation of his teammates.
“It’s a short training camp, we get the chance to leave Kaunas, change our surroundings. It’s fun, you don’t want to get into that daily routine, same places, same faces. It’s nice we managed a trip like this to Palanga. Hopefully, it’s all for the better.”
