Coach Schiller highlights backcourt dynamic in Belgrade road trip 6
After returning from the EuroLeague Round 2 road trip to Moscow, Zalgiris gets ready for their first double week and a trip to Belgrade, where they’ll meet Crvena Zvezda. As usual, Zalgiris head coach Martin Schiller shared his thoughts on the upcoming battle.
“It is business as usual in the preparations. Obviously, you’ve got less time to prepare, but this timing is something that I’ve dealt with in the past, so it doesn’t feel completely uncommon. Crvena Zvezda has a very dynamic backcourt. Langston Hall, Jordan Lloyd, Torrian Walden. Sasha Obradovic likes to build his teams like that. They like playing aggressive defense in the full court, and those two aspects describe them.”
The Serbian side posed no threat to Fenerbahce in their season opener, losing 63-77. Nevertheless, they bounced back against Baskonia, taking them to school for a 90-73 win. The coach noted the early stage of the season being the reasoning behind such a swing in results, as all the teams are still getting into full rhythm.
When asked about the current situation with the coronavirus in EuroLeague clubs, and whether it worries the team, Schiller noted that they’re doing everything to not get infected.
“I’m not afraid on a personal level. This is not being brave or anything. I’m doing everything to not get the virus and I’m very conservative with it, and I’ve got a lot of respect for the rules, but I’m just not afraid. This is the job that we’ve taken, and everybody’s made a commitment to play. We’ve got to take caution, be smart about it and do everything we can to stay healthy.”
Zalgiris’ battle against Crvena Zvezda is set for 20:00 this Tuesday, the 13th of October.
