Zalgiris wins in overtime against Prienai 48
COVID-19 is messing up the whole Europe, so Betsafe LKL schedule was moderated and Zalgiris Kaunas match-up against CBet Prienai was moved to Sunday from the month of January. Zalgiris needed an overtime to record 7th win in 8 games, as they beat CBet 103-100 in Zalgirio Arena.
Both teams met against each other last weekend in Prienai when Zalgiris trounced the hosts 96-72.
This game was a whole new story. Zalgiris started quickly to gain 14-2 lead and was up 31-24 after the quarter. However, the guests caught up and narrowed it to 51-50 at halftime.
Kaunas team was still in the lead at the end of the third period – 77-71, but as game got closer to the end the visitors got in front. Visitors had the lead with 5 seconds left 88-91. But Steve Vasturia made a three pointer from the corner which sent the game to overtime.
Vasturia, who scored 25 points in this game, made crucial baskets in overtime as well and Zalgiris held on to 103-100 victory.
Joffrey Lauvergne added 18 points and 7 rebounds, Arturas Milaknis had 12 points and Thomas Walkup finished the game with 9 points and 9 assists for Zalgiris.
It was a night to remember for youngster Tom Digbeu who scored 27 points for CBet. Regimantas Miniotas collected the stat line of 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
