Martin Schiller addresses CSKA threat 7
Zalgiris sets out for another double EuroLeague week, with its first game in Kaunas being against Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow.
While there were some injury concerns with Marius Grigonis and Joffrey Lauvergne, both of them are feeling optimistic about Tuesday’s battle.
The Moscow side is coming to Kaunas having won their last three games, tying Zalgiris in the standings with a 5-3 record. Coach Martin Schiller traditionally talked to the media on the eve of the Round 9 matchup.
“What stands out for me, is that they shoot a lot of threes and do it at a very high percentage. The second thing is that they get to the line a lot. They’re number one in the EuroLeague in free-throw attempts. Being really decisive with our post-up defense, knowing where to help, when to help, if to help, will be very important. Finding that balance of helping, but not giving up too much on the outside will be very decisive.”
Schiller also pointed out playing against an elite scorer in Mike James.
“We’ve faced a couple matchups like these. As I’ve said before, finding the right matchups will be important. It’s probably going to be a combination of more people guarding one guy, who is such a lightning scorer.”
The head coach noted that the biggest improvements are needed on the defensive end, highlighting the importance of staying in front of the opponents in close-out situations.
