Zalgiris starts off new year victoriously 9
Zalgiris made sure they got off on the right foot for the start of 2021, with a dominating road victory against Neptunas in the Betsafe-LKL. The green-and-whites secured a 104-74 victory in Klaipeda, coasting to their 11th win in 12 games.
Zalgiris did not register Joffrey Lauvergne and Karolis Lukosiunas, and also gave a chance for 16-year-old Paulius Murauskas to make his debut in the second quarter.
Zalgiris started off the game at an incredible pace, with three-pointers in each of the first three possessions giving a 9-0 lead. By the end of the first quarter, it was already a wide margin for the visitors, as Zalgiris led 34-20.
The margin kept climbing from then on, as the Kaunas side improved their lead to 19 before the break, and further drove up the score afterwards.
With 30 points separating the two teams, the fourth quarter was merely a formality, as Zalgiris cruised to yet another victory on the national front.
Rokas Jokubaitis was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points to his name. Martinas Geben added 16 points and 6 boards, while Marius Grigonis chipped in with 14 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Arturas Milaknis had 13 points in his tally, while Marek Blazevic and Lukas Lekavicius finished up with 10 apiece.
