Lauvergne: “I’m enjoying my basketball and I wanted to stay”
Zalgiris secured two wins last night – one on the court, and one off of it. After having taken a dramatic EuroLeague victory over Valencia, Zalgiris announced the contract extension of big man Joffrey Lauvergne.
Including the option in his contract, the Frenchman could be staying in Kaunas all the way until 2023.
“I’m very happy. I don’t know what to say, but I’m very glad we decided to extend the contract. Now let’s focus on the rest of the season, but a lot of fun so far. I’m enjoying my basketball and at this point of my career it’s the most important thing. We’re winning a lot of games, so it’s even better. But the way we work, and the way the organization is, I’m enjoying it.”
The 29-year-old has been a regular starter in Martin Schiller’s game schemes, playing every single EuroLeague game in the starting unit this season. In 21 minutes of action, Lauvergne averages 11.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. With an average of 13.0 efficiency per game, he ranks second in the team, behind only Marius Grigonis.
