Zalgiris falls short in Utena, as leaders get rested 26
Zalgiris suffered its second Betsafe-LKL loss, as they had to face defeat in Utena. Having rested Marius Grigonis and Thomas Walkup, Martin Schiller’s team fell short, 87-90, after a game-winning shot from Vaidas Kariniauskas.
Zalgiris started off the high-scoring affair well, going ahead 28-22 in the opening quarter. While the margin remained steady, the green-and-whites continued having no problems finding ways to Utena’s basket.
After the break, Paulius Jankunas added his second three, as Zalgiris finally clang on to a double-digit lead, which they managed to take to the second half. Nevertheless, Utena managed to get a 13-0 run going in the final quarter, that had Zalgiris on the back seat, 84-87. Joffrey Lauvergne managed to tie up the game, but Vaidas Kariniauskas’ last-second three-pointer decided the outcome of the game, as he gave Utena the win.
Rokas Jokubaitis was Zalgiris’ leading scorer with 13 points and 5 assists. His backcourt partner Lukas Lekavicius added 13 points and 6 assists, while Joffrey Lauvergne ended up with 9 points to his name. Martinas Geben and Paulius Jankunas both ended the night with 8 points.
