Zalgiris tabs 16th win in local front 2
Zalgiris secured yet another victory at home in the Betsafe-LKL on Sunday, defeating Neptunas Klaipeda 85-72. The victory helped Zalgiris improve to a 16-2 record, widening the gap at the top of the standings.
Neptunas had the upper hand right out of the get-go, running ahead by double-digits, 2-12. Nevertheless, Zalgiris didn’t wait around and their big man helped reduce the gap to just 4 before the end of the quarter
The tables quickly turned in Zalgiris’ favor, as they piled up the points and looked to build a tangible lead before entering the halftime break. 20 minutes in, the green-and-whites were ahead by a dozen, 49-37.
Zalgiris’ lead never really looked to come under pressure, as the hosts comfortably held their distance until the end of the game to secure a 13-point victory.
Joffrey Lauvergne was Zalgiris’ leading scorer with 11 points and 5 boards, as Marius Grigonis and Augustine Rubit both contributed 10 points. Karolis Lukosiunas and Lukas Lekavicius dropped 9 apiece, with Lukas also assisting on 7 baskets, while Steve Vasturia finished up with 8 points to his name. Rokas Jokubaitis ended the night with 7 points and 6 rebounds.
